Meet our Inspired Athletes that will be walking (or working) you through this HIIT Free Weights session. Don’t be afraid of the ever intimidating “HIIT” title! With Ashley at the helm, you can think of it as a heartful, healthy, invigorating workout sesh.
Ashley, our resident kinesiology queen, takes a scientific approach to training to maximize results (and she’s super fun to boot). You’re in great hands for this full-body session – take a look at Ashley’s impressive bio for proof. Now that we’ve gained your trust, let’s get into it!
For this cardio video, Ashley and Inspired Athlete Darius “THE Instructor” Jackson will run through the entire circuit with you step-by-step. With this duo tackling the workout, you’ll get to see modifications that work with your equipment and fitness experience level! You’ll need light dumbbells or water bottles, a moderate weight or a hefty book, and a bench or a chair.
As fun as our trainers are, they’re serious about form, so you can be assured that you’ll make your way through this workout with reminders to correct your stance, maintain good posture and when to breathe and stretch it out. We keep technique tight around here. Ashley leads all sessions with key instruction and education to keep your workouts targeted, your joints protected and your body safe. Not to mention, you’re going to walk away with some primo fitness vocabulary: “pistols” (single leg squats), “goblet squats” (wide stance squats) and as Darius puts it, “T-Rexes” – you’ll have to watch on the app to find out what that is.
Midway through, even our trainers got a bit breathless! But Ashley spills a secret to success to make it through intense cardio strength training – “half the battle is mental.” Moments like this in the video will help you “drive-through” the challenging portions as she puts it. She keeps the encouragement going with a gentle reminder that “we all have those days where we just have to dig a little deeper, that’s what makes us better.” A small but mighty move: Ashley consistently sounds off a countdown for each step to ease the mental battle and keep away the urge to quit mid-workout!
Before it all comes to an end, there’s a much needed – often overlooked “warm down.” After working triceps, quads, and everything in between, the muscles deserve some love.
