What name do you like to go by?
Melodye or Mel
How did you get into fitness?
My son was in kinder and I needed to kill some time so I went to a Step class. I wasn’t thrilled about the class because it was a challenge, but I was determined to get it so I went back again and again. I found myself cueing with the instructor and felt like I was doing it better than her (all in my own mind of course) but I felt so much better about myself and saw the progress of many members. It all clicked and I realized, fitness was what I wanted to do
What do you like to do on the weekends?
I usually will take a class at the gym (keep in mind I teach 12 to 15 classes during the week) and I do a 5-mile walk/run with my sister on the weekend as well. We also love the river, so we go on many weekends to Lake Havasu. It’s the perfect spot for all the family to join us.
What inspires you?
Humor inspires me. I always love a good joke. I like smart people but not those who are a know-it-all. I admire and am inspired by people who like to share their wisdom without making others feel less than they are.
What’s your pre-workout routine or ritual?
I teach every morning and some evenings. I’ll take my dog for a 15minute run before I’m off to the gym. I try to get a good night’s sleep and must have a cup of coffee before I can do anything.
What has motivated you to become a trainer?
I love moving and staying active. I love the gym and working out so I wanted to share my passion with others. I’m getting older and see how important it is to stay active and to keep moving.**
How do you motivate others?
I’m welcoming and approachable and I let members/clients be themselves. If you can make someone feel comfortable, they will feel successful and will come back for more. I also tell a few jokes (as bad as they are) so I make people laugh.**
What are your 5 favorite songs from your workout playlist?
I have too many to name. I love a little pop, classic and country. I love Bon Jovi music (Jon Bon Jovi is my boyfriend). I also so Darius Rucker/ Hootie and the Blowfish and Steve Perry and Journey, but the list goes on and on.
What “healthy” food do you hate?
I’m not a fan of eggplant (but who is?) I can do without Sardines. I’m not much of a foody person. I’m like most “normal” foods. I’m not one to try something I can’t pronounce.
What are you most proud of?
I’m proud of my 25 years plus of being in fitness. I’m fit for my age and proud to show people no matter what your age, you can be fit.I’m also a pretty good Hula Hooper and can teach you a trick or two.
Where can everyone find you?
You can find me at the local gym and Inspire Fitness Studio too!
You can find me running with my new puppy around East Lake in Yorba Linda. Or maybe I’ll see you at the London Bridge Channel in Lake Havasu. Check me out on my YouTube channel at Melodye Wintemute, Instagram @1Melodye and on Facebook at Melodye Hirsch-Wintemute.**
What are some of your goals?
I want to keep doing what I’m doing. I love teaching all formats like Cycle, Zumba, Step, Strength training and Silver Sneakers. My goal will be to stay fresh with new formats in the industry. I plan to train and work with as many people who will have me. I’ve been told by so many that I have made a difference in their lives, so If I can help someone in a small way, I want to keep doing that!**
Anything else that you would like us to know?
If you see me walking down the street and we have met before but I am ignoring you, its most likely my identical twin sister (or maybe I feel like ignoring you—haha). There is two of me, so beware…
